Job summary

Valley Baptist - Harlingen is seeking a Nurse Extern II who collaborates with multidisciplinary team to support med-surg patients in facilities including a primary stroke center and a long-term acute care unit.

The extern provides expanded clinical experience for senior nursing students and assists the Registered Nursing staff by performing patient care activities, planning, implementation, observation and evaluation, with a 1:1 preceptorship with an RN.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program and in senior year.
• Must pass all senior courses to remain in program.
• AHA BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to provide patient care.
• Assist RN staff with patient care activities, planning, implementation, observation and evaluation.
• 1:1 preceptorship with a Registered Nurse in level II.

Job description

The Nurse Extern II collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide the very best care for our med-surg patients in our advanced facilities that include a primary stroke center and a long-term acute care unit.

The Nurse Extern role is designed to provide expanded clinical experience for senior professional (RN) nursing students and to assist the Registered Nursing staff by performing patient care activities, which includes participating in patient care planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation, as well as reporting significant observations to a Registered Nurse. In the level II, the Nurse Extern will have a 1:1 preceptorship with a Registered Nurse.

Education:

• Required: Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program and successfully entered their senior year in an accredited school of nursing and must pass all senior courses to remain in the program.

Certifications:

• Required: AHA BLS
