Aurora Health Care's St. Luke's Neuro Medical Unit is offering a Nurse Extern opportunity for December 2026 grads. Start as a nurse extern and transition to a nursing position after graduation, remaining with the same team to ease the transition.

The position supports the start of your nursing career as a Newly Licensed RN, working with experienced staff and gaining hands-on patient care experience under supervision. 8 hrs a week until graduation.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program in your final year.
• Successful completion of a Medical-Surgical course including pharmacology concepts.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Under the observation of the Registered Nurse, completes activities of daily living, vital sign completion and blood glucose monitoring.
• Collaborates with the Registered Nurse in establishing a plan of care based on health needs and patient/family preferences.
• Under the observation of the Registered Nurse, evaluates patient response to interventions and communicates observations and patient needs to the RN.
• Develops delegation skills for Health Unit Coordinators, Nursing Assistants and other staff on unit.
• Administers medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse, with proficiency evaluated prior to administration.
• Manages an increased number of patients and applies time management during shift routine.
• Demonstrates ability to collect and synthesize patient data to identify status and needs.
• In emergencies, participates in activities under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Performs patient positioning and transporting duties with proper technique.
• Provides care appropriate to age-specific needs and developmental considerations as described in unit policies.
