Job summary

Inova Health System is accepting applications for our Nurse Extern - 2027 Semester Program. This role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience while you complete your nursing coursework. Start dates are 1/4/27 and 3/8/27, with a 12-week session requiring a minimum of 96 hours on the unit.

The first week is mandatory training and orientation during daytime hours. Applicants must be enrolled in a nursing degree program and have completed at least one acute care clinical rotation.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled nursing student with minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0.
• Successful completion of one acute care (med-surg) clinical rotation.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required upon start.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with the RN on the plan of care for patient assignments and provides basic nursing care under RN supervision.
• Assists with unit needs to improve patient flow and outcomes through effective communication and teamwork.
• Gathers basic monitoring data and specimens, reports changes to the RN.
• Maintains a safe and clean environment and protects patient privacy.
