Job summary

The Nurse Extern works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide routine care for hospitalized patients at the Medical University of South Carolina. The role may be cross-trained to serve as a Unit Secretary based on unit needs and training requirements.

Education required includes completion of the first semester of an accredited ADN or BSN program, with enrollment ongoing and up to 12 months to pass NCLEX after graduating. AHA BLS Certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine care to hospitalized patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• May be cross-trained to operate as a Unit Secretary depending on unit needs.
• Perform duties within training and certification limits; assist team as assigned.
