Job Summary

A Nurse Extern works under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Reports to Manager; accountable to Chief Nursing Officer. The position is FLSA: Non‑exempt, part‑time (FTE 0.001 – PRN/OnCall) with varied shifts.

Key Responsibilities

Works collaboratively with the patient care team.
Performs direct patient care under RN direction, delegation, and supervision.
Documents patient care given.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to supervising RN.
Maintains positive professional relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and the health care team.
Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides appropriate education.
Advocates for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.
Supports performance improvement philosophy.
Assists with orientation and training of personnel and students.
Participates and attends meetings as required or assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Enrolled in a School of Nursing.

Required Skills: Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to work in a stressful environment, and take appropriate action.

Certifications: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS‑HCP).
