Job summary

Lifepoint Health's Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield, KY is seeking a Nurse Extern (RN) to support the patient care team under supervision of a Registered Nurse. This PRN role focuses on direct patient care and learning in a supportive environment.

As a 3rd year nursing student with BLS-HCP, you will document care, monitor patient conditions, assist with daily living activities, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver compassionate, high-quality care.

Qualifications

• 3rd year nursing student or higher
• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) certification preferred or required

Responsibilities

• Works collaboratively with the patient care team.
• Performs direct patient care under supervision of a registered nurse.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the supervising RN.
• Maintains positive professional relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and the health care team.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
• Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care and transfers.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and family and provides education.
• Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

How you’ll contribute

A Nurse Extern works under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.

• Works collaboratively with the patient care team.
• Performs direct patient care under the direction, delegation and supervision of a registered nurse.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to supervising RN.
• Maintains positive professional relationship with patient/ families, coworkers, and health care team.
• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
• Supports performance improvement philosophy.
  

Nonessential Functions

• Assist with orientation and training of personnel and students.
• Participates and attends meetings as required and/ or assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
