Schedule: Monday - Friday (full-time hours)

Greenleaf Behavioral Health, Valdosta's leading Psychiatric Hospital and Treatment Center, is seeking a passionate Nurse Educator/Infection Prevention Specialist to work at our adolescent and adult facility in Valdosta, GA.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
  • Facilitates orientation/onboarding programs to promote employee retention.
  • Conducts orientation that fosters a positive learning environment.
  • Role models organizational and personal commitment to new employee success.
  • Designs and identifies educational activities to address practice gaps for both licensed and non-licensed healthcare personnel.
  • Identifies learning needs of staff and/or the facility.
  • Demonstrates competent practice through activities like demonstrations or simulations.
  • Assesses practice gaps and crosswalks competencies to practice standards.
  • Collaborates with the Corporate Nursing Director/Educator to review outcomes data for refining competency activities.
  • Assists in developing and instructing didactic content and clinical skills for competencies.
  • Develops educational plans based on gap assessments or quality data/safety outcomes.
  • Aligns educational programs with facility and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Implements and delivers curricula as required by regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, CARF, CMS, and State agencies.
  • Creates engaging, evidence-based educational content tailored to the audience.
  • Maintains exceptional instructional skills while engaging learners.
  • Acts as a resource for nursing staff.
  • Collaborates with medical practitioners and leadership to incorporate nursing processes into patient care plans.
  • Provides educational leadership to enhance patient care within clinical protocols.
  • Promotes safe, quality, and compassionate patient care.
  • Supports patient and caregiver education, problem-solving, and health management across the continuum of care.
  • Educates staff on equipment and supplies; coordinates in-service training.
  • Supports innovation in educational design and provides just-in-time education resources.
  • Communicates professionally with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • May provide direct patient care as needed.
Infection Prevention Responsibilities:
  • Conducts ongoing infection surveillance.
  • Gathers, interprets, and records infection data.
  • Prepares and presents infection reports to relevant committees.
  • Inspects environment and personnel activities for infection hazards.
  • Monitors compliance with policies and industry standards.
  • Updates staff on infection prevention policies; investigates exposure incidents.
  • Reports communicable diseases to authorities.
  • Develops and delivers training on infection prevention and control.
  • Analyzes infection data for leadership.
Other Functions:
  • Identifies professional development needs of staff.
  • Supports staff growth and skill enhancement.
  • Promotes certification in nursing specialties.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Education, or related field preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent experience required.
  • 5+ years of nursing experience preferred.
  • At least 3 years of RN experience required.
  • Inpatient psychiatry experience preferred.
  • Behavioral health RN experience required.
  • Infection control experience preferred.
  • Experience in Clinical Education/Training preferred.
  • Certification as an NPD Practitioner or similar preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current state nursing license required.
  • Infection Control certification preferred.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certifications required (training provided).
Additional Regulatory Requirements

The infection preventionist is appointed by the governing body to oversee the infection control program, based on recommendations from medical and nursing leadership.
