Qualifications

• Active RN license in DC or a compact state
• 3–4 years of progressively responsible nursing experience
• Experience in teaching or professional development preferred
• Experience with scrub and circulate in CVOR
• Experience with transplant, VAD, heart failure, robotic, and congenital heart procedures

Job description

The CVOR Nurse Educator at MedStar Washington Hospital Center plays a key role in advancing nursing excellence through education, mentorship, and professional development. This position focuses on developing and implementing educational programs, strengthening clinical competencies, and promoting evidence-based practices that support nurses caring for patients undergoing complex cardiac and vascular procedures.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing
• Master’s degree in nursing or business administration preferred

Experience

• 3-4 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience
• Experience in teaching or professional development preferred
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience with both scrub and circulate experience
• Experience with larger program that handles transplants, VAD’s, heart failure, aortic work, robotic, congenital heart surgery
• Good communication, teamwork, and practice-member of AORN
• Experience creating competencies and knowledge of AORN standards

Licenses and Certifications

• RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of ColumbiaCertification in clinical specialty from nationally recognized nursing organization within 1 Year
• Nursing Professional Development certification within 36 months of hire
• CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days
• Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit
