Job summary

Northwell in New York is seeking a nurse leader to oversee a patient care unit with 24/7 responsibility for clinical operations and staff. You will translate strategy into care delivery, guide teams toward department objectives and ensure high-quality, family-centered care in a healing environment.

The role requires a BSN with NY licensure, 6–8 years nursing experience and 2–5 years leadership; a MSN is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Master’s preferred.
• Current NY Registered Nurse license required.
• 6–8 years nursing experience and 2–5 years leadership/management experience.

Responsibilities

• Manages and has 24/7 responsibility for the team, operations and patient care activities of a patient care unit.
• Assists nursing leadership in setting strategic direction for programs aligning with mission and nursing plan.
• Communicates, builds consensus, and guides team toward department objectives.
• Promotes high quality patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
• Creates a professional work environment with respect, engagement and accountability.
• Promotes evidence-based, ethical and compassionate practice.
• Acquires and manages staffing for the patient care unit; collaborates with HR.
• Provides direction and guidance to unit team members and supervisors.
• Facilitates performance reviews, promotions, pay and corrective actions.
• Serves as a role model for professional standards.
• Assists in career development planning for team members.
• Educates teams in department procedures and systems (information systems, fiscal responsibility).
• Manages patient care unit budget; monitors expenditures and actions on variances.
• Monitors performance metrics to support decision-making and outcomes.
• Ensures adherence to care delivery model and standards of practice.
• Ensures compliance with JC, CMS, NYS, DOH, HIPAA, and system standards.
• Maintains current knowledge of clinical competencies and scope of practice.
• Identifies opportunities to improve operations using evidence-based strategies.
• Performs related duties as required; adheres to ADA.
