Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Detroit is seeking a dedicated Nurse Assistant to support our nursing teams on a medical/surgical unit. Under the supervision of an RN, you will assist with patient care, respond to requests, and help ensure safety and comfort for patients over 15.

You must complete a Nurse Assistant program or be enrolled in a nursing track, plus BLS Heart Saver certification during orientation. CNA certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Completion of a Nurse Assistant program OR current nursing program enrollment OR foreign-trained RN without Michigan license OR Medical Assistant program OR at least one year of NA/PCT experience.
• Complete BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.

About the Department

This medical/surgical unit is an 18-bed unit that treats patients over the age of 15. The most frequent diagnoses are congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, liver failure, pneumonia and vascular bypass surgery. As a teaching unit, it is the perfect environment for nursing assistants to hone their skills and be exposed to a wide variety of conditions.

As a Nurse Assistant, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of our patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). You'll assist in patient care, respond to emergent situations, and contribute to care planning. Your work directly supports our nursing teams and enhances the patient experience, making a meaningful impact in healthcare delivery.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Completion of a Nurse Assistant program (e.g., Patient Care Technician or Patient Assistant Technician) OR currently enrolled in a nursing program with successful completion of Fundamentals of Nursing OR foreign trained and licensed RN without a Michigan RN license OR Medical Assistant program with or without experience OR at least one (1) year of previous experience in an NA, PCT, PAT, or similar role.
• Complete BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

• CNA certification preferred.
