  • JOB TITLE: Nurse Apprentice
  • SHIFT: PRN, Days, as needed

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATION OR SPECIAL TRAINING:

Employee must be enrolled in a School of Nursing and a student in good standing either:

  • In the last year of an accredited BSN program
  • In the last semester of an accredited ASN program

It is the responsibility of the student nurse to provide written documentation from their School of Nursing that verifies the level of clinical skills completed prior to performing any duties beyond that of a Patient Care Technician.

Active CPR / BLS Certification is required within the first 30 days of hire.

Job related experience: No previous experience required in specialty areas. Nursing Students will have completed fundamentals in a Nursing course.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Student Nurse Apprentice (SNA) may assist professional nursing staff with activities of daily living and vital signs in caring for patients. The SNA is responsible for assisting and serving patients in a manner conducive to patient safety and comfort. The SNA works under the direction of the Nurse Manager and the staff RN with whom they are assisting for patient care, and they are able to use the extended role that their Student Nurse training has given them with supervision. When time allows the SNA may perform procedures while on duty under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse that they have been taught and practiced clinically at their School of Nursing, with the exception of passing medications (including IV medications). The Student Nurse is responsible for providing written documentation from their clinical instructor of such procedures.
