Job summary

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care at the Dayton Correctional Institute. You will administer medications, assist with physician rounds, manage chronic care, respond to emergencies, and support a multidisciplinary team in a secure setting.

Starting pay is approximately $81,000 based on location and shift assignments. Ohio’s NLC allows practice with a multistate license in 37 states. License as an Ohio RN is required.

Qualifications

  • Requires current licensure as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code.

Responsibilities

  • Administers medication and monitors patient medication compliance
  • Performs treatments and nurse's sick call
  • Assists with doctor's sick call
  • Performs nursing management of chronic care clinics
  • Responds to emergencies providing emergency care and CPR
  • Performs subjective and objective assessment of patients
  • Collects vital signs and timely documents all findings
  • Collects urine and/or other bodily fluid specimens
  • Prepares patients for release or transfer to other facilities by reviewing patient care and transfer summaries
  • Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and forwarded to pharmacy services
  • Participates in work-related training and institution training exercises
  • Provides assistance to other healthcare staff
  • Investigates and documents problem areas or areas of concern
  • Reviews shift report from preceding shift(s)
  • Assists physicians with medical procedures
  • Assumes duties of other nurses during absences
  • Counsels/provides education to patients regarding healthcare maintenance and disease prevention
  • Participates in quality assurance activities
  • Provides training and work direction to new nurses and hospital staff
  • Serves as a resource person for other healthcare and security staff regarding healthcare matters
  • Provides orientation and training for new healthcare personnel
  • Serves as the lead clinical authority on site in the absence of senior medical staff

Starting pay is approximately $81,000 based on location/shift assignments.
Ohio has joined the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), which went into effect January 1, 2023. The NLC allows an RN to hold one multistate license (MSL) in their primary state of residence while practicing virtually or over state lines in 37 other compact states across the country.
