Job summary

Northrop Grumman seeks a CNC Programmer Level 1/2 in Iuka, MS for 3–, 4–, and 5–axis milling and mill-turn work on aerospace components. The role involves CAD/CAM programming, fixture design, and verifying toolpaths through simulations. The candidate will optimize cycles and mentor operators on the shop floor.

Relocation assistance may be available; travel 10% of the time. Secret clearance is required. Shifts include A‑shift or C‑shift with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor's degree or 4 years relevant experience; Level 1 requires 0+ years, Level 2 requires 1 year or master's.
  • Experience with Siemens NX, AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Mastercam or GibbsCAM.
  • Ability to read complex drawings with GD&T symbols and understand cutting paths.

Responsibilities

  • Develop programs using Mastercam, CATIA, or Siemens NX for 3–, 4–, and 5–axis milling and mill-turns.
  • Design NC programs with CATIA V5/V6 for complex 3–, 4–, and 5–axis mills, lathes, and mill-turns.
  • Analyze 3‑D CAD models and blueprints to determine machining sequences and fixtures.
  • Design fixtures and jigs in CAD to secure aerospace components during machining.
  • Conduct machine simulations (e.g., VeriCut) to verify toolpaths before production.
  • Refine programs to reduce cycle times, improve tool life, and maintain quality.
  • Create setup sheets and tool lists for machinists.
  • Troubleshoot programming issues and mentor operators on the shop floor.

Job description

Position Overview

CNC Programmer Level 1/2 – Iuka, MS; A‑Shift (7:00am–4:30pm) or C‑Shift (Fri–Sun 7:00am–7:30pm). Relocation assistance may be available. Travel required 10% of the time. Clearance required: Secret.

Core Responsibilities
  • Program Development: Utilize Mastercam, CATIA, or Siemens NX to create toolpaths for 3‑, 4‑, and 5‑axis milling and mill‑turn machines.
  • Design complete NC programs using CATIA V5/V6 for complex 3‑, 4‑, and 5‑axis mills, lathes, and mill‑turns.
  • CAD/CAM Integration: Analyze 3‑D CAD models and blueprints to determine efficient machining sequences and work‑holding strategies.
  • Tooling & Fixture Design: Design custom fixtures and jigs in CAD to secure aerospace components during machining.
  • Simulation & Verification: Conduct machine simulations (e.g., VeriCut) to ensure error‑free toolpaths before production.
  • Process Optimization: Refine programs to reduce cycle times, improve tool life, and maintain consistent quality of high‑value aerospace parts.
  • Documentation: Create detailed setup sheets and tool lists for machinists.
  • Shop Floor Support: Troubleshoot programming issues during setup, perform prove‑outs, and mentor machine operators.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (or 4 years relevant experience) and 0 years of experience required for Level1; 1 year (or Master’s degree) required for Level2.
  • Experience with CAD software (SiemensNX, AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and CAM software (Mastercam, GibbsCAM).
  • Expert ability to interpret complex technical drawings, GD&T symbols, and work with blueprints.
  • Foundation in trigonometry and geometry for calculating cutting paths and angles.
  • Knowledge of G‑code, M‑code, and post‑processing.
  • Experience machining aerospace composites and alloys (Titanium, Inconel, Aluminum).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government clearance and Special Program Access (PAR).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Regulatory compliance knowledge (AS‑9100, ITAR/EAR).
  • Associate’s degree in mechanical or machining related curriculum or 6 years of machining and programming experience.
Salary

Primary Level: $56,700.00 – $85,100.00 | Secondary Level: $68,200.00 – $102,400.00. Salary determined by scope, responsibilities, and candidate experience.
