Job Overview
Northrop Grumman – SatNav & Marine Systems – Sunnyvale, CAPosition: Sr. Principal CNC Programmer (4th Shift – Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 12‑hour shifts 5:30am–5:30pm). Travel may be required (≤10%).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and edit CNC programs for large‑scale, complex precision metal components on multiple‑axis CNC milling & turning centers.
- Generate and post‑process CAM files to produce machine code.
- Review technical data packages, validate CAD models and engineering drawings.
- Develop and optimize machining processes (setup, fixturing, strategy, tool selection, speed/feed).
- Select and procure appropriate tooling based on material, geometry, tolerances, and equipment capabilities.
- Validate programs through simulation, peer reviews, and dry‑run checks.
- Collaborate with machinists, manufacturing engineers, design engineers, and cross‑functional teams to improve processes, reduce risk, and support schedule goals.
- Lead or participate in teams focused on operational efficiency and manufacturing risk mitigation.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 8years of relevant experience, OR 6years of relevant experience with a Master’s degree (additional 4years of work may substitute for a degree).
- Minimum 2years of direct CNC programming experience.
- Experience interpreting manufacturing blueprints and process plans.
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Ability to create and edit 3D CAM files and machine‑code programs.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a U.S. Government Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with materials requirements planning (MRP), manufacturing execution systems (MES), and SAP.
- Proficiency in Siemens NX CAD/CAM for multiple‑axis CNC programming.
