Job Summary and Qualifications

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist produces images according to ARRT and NMTCB standards, following guidelines from the Bureau of Radiation Control, hospital policies, and the radioactive materials license. The role involves ensuring compliance, providing services with radioisotopes for diagnosis or treatment, demonstrating knowledge of human anatomy, patient care, radiation safety, and technical skills. The technologist exercises professional judgment and maintains ethical standards.

  • Provides patient-specific care, ensuring high patient satisfaction.
  • Produces high-quality scans across all age groups.
  • Follows protocols for imaging and isotope dosing, adjusting for age or disease as needed.
  • Operates nuclear medicine equipment efficiently.
  • Completes scans timely, organizing workflow effectively.
  • Manages challenging patients with skill, modifying techniques as needed.
  • Understands disease processes, images findings, and communicates with radiologists.
  • Performs radioactive therapy procedures per policies and license.
  • Minimizes radiation exposure, adhering to ALARA principles.
  • Maintains radiation safety awareness.
  • Explains procedures clearly to patients and families.
  • Ensures patient safety, privacy, confidentiality, and dignity at all times.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate from an accredited radiology program (JRCERT or AMA-approved) or military training of equivalent standards.
  • Associates Degree or higher in Radiologic Technology preferred.
  • 2-3 years experience as a Radiologic Tech preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • CNMT or ARRT with NM certification.
  • If hired before 4/13/12 and grandfathered in Texas, only CMRT required.
  • Transportation of Hazardous Radioactive Material certification.
  • BLS certification per SDH policy.
