Job summary

South Shore Health in Weymouth, MA is seeking a part-time Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform the full range of nuclear medicine scans. Per-diem 10-hour shifts are available with no on-call requirements, primarily day shift, 06:30am–5:00pm.

Under the supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor, you will ensure quality control, safety, and accurate image acquisition across planar, SPECT, and cardiac studies, utilizing gamma cameras and related Workday/Epic tools.

Qualifications

• NMTCB or ARRT certification required.
• Completed an approved Nuclear Medicine Program.
• BLS certification within 180 days of hire.
• Maintain CEU activity and on-site CEU records for licensure.

Responsibilities

• Perform full range of Nuclear Scans under supervision.
• Labeling and transfer to printers; patient care and safety.
• Quality control including daily floods and weekly phantom checks.
• Operate gamma camera and related imaging equipment while complying with safety policies.

Under the guidance of the Supervisor of Nuclear Medicine, will perform a full range of Nuclear Scans. Compensation Pay Range: $42.42 - $57.09 Per-diem, 10hr shifts, weekend and weekday shifts available, NO CALL, 06:30am - 5:00pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1 - Department policies and procedures

• Hours of work, OT policy, paycheck distribution.
• Punctuality and attendance, use of time off, vacations.
• Policy manual.
• Id badges.
• Clocking in/out.

2 - Patient care

• Patient reception, identification, and explanation of procedure.
• How to contact and confirm a translator if needed
• Injections.
• Flow studies.
• Planar static imaging.
• Whole body imaging.
• Cardiac imaging and analysis.
• SPECT.
• Labeling and transfer to printers.

3 - Quality control/equipment operation

• Perform daily intrinsic/extrinsic floods.
• Performs weekly bar phantom/grid.
• Perform uniformity test and COR of gamma camera using a radioactive source.
• Performs dose calibrator daily constancy
• Log in/out isotopes.
• Performs thyroid probe daily QC.
• Performs hot lab, clinic, and injection room surveys.
• Conforms to electrical safety guidelines.

4 - Radiation Safety

• Radiation safety procedures - spills.
• Radiation safety manual.
• Pregnant policy.
• Radioactive trash procedures; gloves, syringes, needles.
• QMP for I131.

5 - General health and safety requirements

• Fire safety, RACE, location of fire extinguisher and escape routes.
• Emergency preparedness plan.
• Hazardous materials and location of MSDS.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum Education - Preferred Completed an approved Nuclear Medicine Program and be certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or ARRT Certification.
• Minimum Work Experience Prefer one (1) to two (2) years of experience: Prefer prior experience however, new graduates will be considered.
• NMT (NMTCB) – Nuclear Medicine Technology (Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board)
• NMT (ARRT) – Nuclear Medicine Technology (The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
• NMT (MA) - Nuclear Medicine Technology (Massachusetts Radiation Control Program)
• Required Classes/Certifications BLS - Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) within 180 days of hire
• Employees must produce their CEU records to their manager prior to start date and on an ongoing basis thereafter.
• Technologists in this position are responsible to maintain CEU activity on-site for a period of two years longer than the technologist’s last licensure renewal date.
