Job Summary

Per Diem Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT Technologist

Overview

Under general supervision and following established procedures, handles and administers radiopharmaceuticals and operates radiation detection and imaging equipment. Weekend shifts are available. The technologist operates SPECT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT imaging systems.

Qualifications
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assays, records, prepares, and administers radiopharmaceuticals.
  2. Operates SPECT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT imaging and radiation detection equipment to obtain diagnostic images and information, ensuring patient preparation and proper positioning.
  3. Performs Computed Tomography Imaging (attenuation correction and diagnostic CT) as ordered in conjunction with SPECT and PET exams, and as needed in the CT Division.
  4. Explains exams to patients, considering their physical and emotional needs, and maintains professional conduct and confidentiality.
  5. Maintains effective communication with departmental and hospital personnel.
  6. Calibrates and verifies equipment operation, performs quality control, and reports malfunctions.
  7. Completes necessary paperwork and electronic documentation for each patient exam.
  8. Stays updated on imaging techniques and participates in continuing education.
  9. Supervises and teaches Nuclear Medicine Technology students.
  10. Prepares and stocks equipment, rooms, and supplies.
  11. Assays, records, and disposes of radioactive waste and contamination.
  12. Participates in on-call coverage and flexible scheduling.
  13. Contributes to research, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  1. Graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
  2. Valid Massachusetts license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  3. Registered or eligible for certification by ARRT-N or NMTCB, with certification maintained within one year of employment.
  4. Diagnostic CT certification required within one year of hire.
