Job summary

Inova Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria, VA, is seeking a dedicated Nuclear Medicine Technologist for a PRN, dayshift role to support our imaging team.

You will explain procedures, assist physicians with exams, identify patients, and ensure radiopharmaceutical injections follow ALARA and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
• Licensure: NMTCB or ARRT (N) certification within one year of hire.
• Certification: BLS from the American Heart Association.
• Experience: Hospital/healthcare setting experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist or student.

Responsibilities

• Explain procedures to patients and families to ease anxiety and ensure cooperation.
• Assist physicians in examinations using standard protocols, sterile techniques, and radiopharmaceutical injections per ACR guidelines.
• Recognize and respond to clinical or emergent problems to ensure best exam outcomes.
• Identify patients and files using EMR and PACS with high accuracy.
• Apply radiation protection procedures and maintain ALARA exposure levels.

Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Responsibilities:

• Explains procedures to patients and families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and ensure patient cooperation.
• Assists the physician in performing a variety of examinations by using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile techniques. Demonstrates proper technique for injection of radiopharmaceuticals under the American College of Radiology guidelines.
• Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams while taking appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome.
• Correctly identifies patients and their files by utilizing electronic medical records and picture archiving/communication systems while ensuring a high degree of accuracy.
• Demonstrates the effective use of radiation protection procedures with shielding, collimation devices, and protective shielding per supervisor observation. Maintains exposure reading within the ALARA limits.

Nuclear Medicine Technologist Additional Requirements:

• Education:Graduate of an accredited school/program of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
• Licensure:Nuclear Medical Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or ARRT (N) certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist within one year of hire date.
• Certification:Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association
• Experience:Experience in a hospital/healthcare environment as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist/Student.
