Job summary

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, VA is seeking a dedicated Nuclear Medicine Technologist for a PRN shift. You will perform imaging procedures, prepare radiopharmaceuticals, and ensure patient safety and comfort.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree in Nuclear Medicine, appropriate licensure or certification within 1 year, and prior hospital experience in nuclear medicine. Inova offers competitive benefits and a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

• Valid Nuclear Medicine licensure or state certification requirements.
• Experience in a hospital/healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Explain procedures to patients and families to ease anxiety.
• Assist physicians in examinations using standard protocols and sterile technique for radiopharmaceutical injection.
• Recognize clinical or emergent issues and act to ensure safe, quality outcomes.
• Identify patients and files using EMR/PACS with high accuracy.
• Follow ALARA principles and protective shielding during procedures.

Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Responsibilities:

• Explains procedures to patients and families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and ensure patient cooperation.
• Assists the physician in performing a variety of examinations by using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile techniques. Demonstrates proper technique for injection of radiopharmaceuticals under the American College of Radiology guidelines.
• Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams while taking appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome.
• Correctly identifies patients and their files by utilizing electronic medical records and picture archiving/communication systems while ensuring a high degree of accuracy.
• Demonstrates the effective use of radiation protection procedures with shielding, collimation devices, and protective shielding per supervisor observation. Maintains exposure reading within the ALARA limits.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:Associate Degree Nuclear Medicine Graduate of an accredited school/program of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
• Licensure:Registered State Inspector - Virginia Within 3 Months Must be licensed as required by the state of employment if employed at an Inova Health System free-standing Imaging Center not affiliated with one of Inova's hospitals. Must possess a state Nuclear Medicine Tech license if it is required by the state of employment and if employed at an Inova free-standing Imaging Center not affiliated with one of Inova's Hospitals.
• Certification:CNMT or ARRT-N obtained within one year of hire date. Nuclear Medical Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or ARRT (N) certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist within one year of hire date; Basic Life Support (BLS) Upon Start
• Experience:Experience in a hospital/healthcare environment as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist/Student.
