Job summary

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.

Job Requirements

Under minimal supervision, performs diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures with radioisotope and radiation detection methods. Leads clinical and ancillary Nuclear Medicine staff.

Primary Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.

• Executes advanced clinical competence in nuclear medicine technology, in all locations across all patient types. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals and adjunctive medications in order to perform patient imaging procedures using nuclear medicine instrumentation. Processes data and enhances digital images using advanced computer technology. Provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation. Selects accurate technical factors and appropriateness on an individual patient basis and demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age of the patient.
• Applies knowledge of nuclear medicine principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, radiation safety and physics, quality assurance, positioning and patient care skills. Adheres to Joint Commission, State, Federal and departmental regulatory compliance standards.
• Actively participates, and takes a leadership role, in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives and efforts to improve workflows, patient experience and quality. Participates as a clinical competency evaluator for students and/or a preceptor for employee training and educational activities.
• Actively participates in the Clinical Ladder Program, if implemented, at the individual System hospital/location, meeting and maintaining all Program standards and requirements.
• Leads clinical and ancillary staff of the Nuclear Medicine Department and facilitates a productive workflow for efficient department operations. Maintains inventory of departmental supplies.
• Performs quality assurance activities. Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions and assures proper follow-up correction by repair services. Resolves clinical/non-clinical issues and escalates problems to the appropriate leadership.
• Provides feedback on staff’s performance, trains and orients personnel in procedures, equipment, and information systems. Collaborates with department leadership to plan, implement, and evaluate budgetary functions, staff scheduling, and educational activities. Actively participates in coaching/mentoring staff in all aspects of job performance.
• Oversees documentation of patient care activity in various electronic health records systems.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Work Experience

• Graduation with a certificate or advanced degree in radiation therapy or nuclear medicine from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education (USDE) or Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). RDMS or CCI Certification within 6 mo. of hire.

• Registered with American Registry Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (N) and/or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (CNMT)
• Licensed Nuclear Medicine Technologist - State of MD
• Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification

Education & Experience - Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in health sciences or related field
• Supervisory experience preferred
• Nuclear Medicine Certification Board NCT and/or PET
• Approval letter from the State of MD Board to operate a CT/Nuclear Medicine Device or ARRT (CT)
• Licensed Radiographer - State of MD
