Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using radiopharmaceuticals and imaging techniques. You will prepare radiopharmaceuticals, acquire and analyze images, and provide data to physicians for interpretation.

The role requires ARRT (N) or CNMT certification, Maryland licensure, and BLS. The position supports department goals through safety, accuracy, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Certificate or advanced degree in radiation therapy or nuclear medicine from an USDE/CHEA-accredited program.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in nuclear medicine.
  • ARRT (N) and/or CNMT certification.
  • Licensed Nuclear Medicine Technologist - State of MD.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures with radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals and perform patient imaging; process data and enhance images.
  • Ensure patient safety and proper technical factors for imaging; comply with regulatory standards.
  • Document patient care activity in Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Support performance improvement initiatives and participate in training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Under general supervision, performs diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures with radioisotopes and radiation detection methods.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Executes basic clinical competence in nuclear medicine technology, in all locations across all patient types. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals and adjunctive medications to perform patient imaging procedures using nuclear medicine instrumentation. Processes data and enhances digital images using advanced computer technology. Provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation. Selects accurate technical factors and appropriateness on an individual patient basis and demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
  • Applies knowledge of nuclear medicine principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, radiation protection and physics, quality assurance, positioning, and patient care skills. Ensures safety and security in the storage and delivery of radiopharmaceuticals. Adheres to Joint Commission, State, Federal, and departmental regulatory compliance standards.
  • Documents accurate patient care activity in various electronic health records systems.
  • Ensures a safe and appropriate work environment. Maintains supplies and inventory in the area. Informs appropriate colleague when supplies need to be ordered from outside vendors. Documents and reports related to equipment/environmental problems in accordance with policy.
  • Actively participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives and efforts to improve workflows, patient experience, and quality. Actively participates in student and employee training and educational activities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Education & Experience - Required
  • Graduation with a certificate or advanced degree in radiation therapy or nuclear medicine from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education (USDE) or Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  • 2+ years
  • Registered with American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (N) and/or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (CNMT)
  • Licensed Nuclear Medicine Technologist - State of MD
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
Education & Experience - Preferred

  • Approval letter from the State of MD Board to operate a CT/Nuclear Medicine Device for attenuation correction and anatomic localization
