The Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides services using radionuclides to assist in the diagnosis or treatment of disease. The technologist demonstrates knowledge of the human structure and functions, patient care, positioning, principles of nuclear medicine, radiation protection, and specialized techniques. The images are produced in accordance with the ARRT and CNMT standards. Furthermore, the technologist will perform procedures and QC Tests within the guidelines set by the Bureau of Radiation Control, South Austin Hospital’s Policies and Procedures Manual, and the Radioactive Materials License (RAML). Maintains professional judgment and conduct that is complimentary to the ARRT Code of Ethics and St. David’s Healthcare Values.
EDUCATION: Graduate from an approved Joint Review Committee on Education Program in Nuclear Medicine Technology program or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: One year of experience as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist preferred.
LICENSED/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Certified or Temporary Certified by Texas Department of State Health Services as a Medical Radiologic Technologist. Certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (CNMT) or Certified in nuclear medicine by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (N) or Board eligible to take the CNMT or ARRT (N) examinations within 24 months. Must be a graduate from an approved Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT) and eligible to take the CNMT or ARRT (N) within 24 months. Basic Cardiac Life Support, or CPR must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
