Summary
The Albany VA Medical Center's Diagnostic Imaging Department is currently recruiting for one Nuclear Medicine Technologist. The incumbent performs a wide variety of functional imaging and non-imaging radionuclide studies, requiring the administration of radiopharmaceuticals and the use of specialized equipment. The work requires professional knowledge of Nuclear Medicine technology and radiation safety.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States.
- Certification: Must be certified in nuclear medicine technology by the NMTCB or ARRT (N). Eligibility requirements include completion of a recognized nuclear medicine technology program with clinical training in radiation safety, instrumentation, procedures, and radiopharmacy.
- Educational Background: Bachelor's or higher degree in a related health sciences field from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Experience: At least 1 year of credible experience at the next lower grade level, performing complex imaging procedures independently, including advanced therapies like yttrium-90 and radium.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to produce high-quality scans, understand physiologic processes related to radiopharmaceutical uptake, develop protocols, and analyze radiation exposure levels.
- Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Duties
- Perform routine and complex diagnostic imaging, including static, dynamic, whole body, and SPECT scans.
- Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals, ensuring safety and sterility.
- Calculate activity volumes, create or modify imaging protocols, and interpret results.
- Operate PET-CT scanners, assess patient data, and communicate findings.
- Follow radiation safety protocols, maintain records, and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Calibrate equipment, perform quality control, and provide radiation safety training.
- Perform physiologic and pharmacologic stress testing, monitor vital signs, and respond to adverse reactions.
- Perform other duties within the scope of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, with on-call rotation.
