Job description

Travel Nuclear Medicine Technician

Location: Hartford, Connecticut

Pay Rate: $53.69 – $55.69 per hour

Position Overview

Our client, an established healthcare organization, is seeking two certified Nuclear Medicine Technologists for onsite, 90-day contract engagements in Hartford, Connecticut. The department performs a broad range of diagnostic nuclear imaging studies for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency populations.

These positions suit technologists who are rigorous about radiopharmaceutical handling and image quality and who work well within a busy imaging service. With two openings available, this is a strong opportunity for individual applicants and for technologists who prefer to start alongside a peer.

Key Responsibilities
  • You will prepare, assay, and administer radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols, verifying dose calculations, confirming patient identity and clinical indication, and documenting each administration accurately and completely.
  • You will perform diagnostic nuclear medicine examinations including cardiac perfusion imaging, bone scans, renal and hepatobiliary studies, thyroid uptake and imaging, and other procedures as ordered, positioning patients correctly and acquiring diagnostic-quality images.
  • You will operate and maintain gamma camera and SPECT equipment, complete daily and periodic quality‑control testing on cameras and dose calibrators, process and reconstruct acquired data, and route completed studies through PACS for interpretation.
  • You will maintain full compliance with radiation safety and regulatory requirements covering the receipt, storage, use, transport, and disposal of radioactive materials, monitor personnel and area dosimetry, maintain decay‑in‑storage and survey records, and follow established procedures in the event of a spill or contamination.
  • You will coordinate scheduling and patient preparation across the daily study list, verifying fasting and medication hold compliance before administration and rescheduling where preparation requirements have not been met. You will also provide clear post‑administration radiation precaution guidance to patients and families, and address questions about radiation exposure with accurate, reassuring information.
Requirements
  • Certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist through NMTCB or ARRT (N) is required, along with graduation from an accredited program and the Connecticut credential required for practice.
  • Prior clinical nuclear medicine experience in a hospital or imaging center is required, along with current BLS certification.
  • You must demonstrate accurate dose preparation and handling, competency with gamma camera and SPECT operation and quality control, familiarity with PACS and radiology information systems, and clear, reassuring communication with patients undergoing unfamiliar procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PET/CT experience or dual nuclear medicine and CT credentialing is strongly preferred. Experience supporting cardiac stress testing, including pharmacologic stress protocols, is valued.
  • Exposure to therapeutic nuclear medicine, prior involvement in radiation safety compliance and recordkeeping, and previous contract or travel technologist experience are all advantageous.
  • Independent intravenous access skills are valued, as is willingness to participate in call coverage or extended‑hours scheduling. Experience coordinating cardiac stress testing with the cardiology service, familiarity with Connecticut's regulatory requirements for radioactive materials, and experience precepting students are all advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
  • These engagements pay an hourly rate in the range of $53.69 to $55.69, based on experience and credentials held, across a 90-day contract with a defined end date.
  • You will work within an experienced imaging team in a well‑equipped department, with a varied case mix that strengthens your clinical portfolio. Two openings are available on this assignment, and extension may be possible depending on performance and continued organizational need.

This is a contract engagement placed through our recruiting team. We work closely with our contract professionals throughout the assignment, from onboarding and first‑week check‑ins through to end‑of‑contract planning, and we actively look for the next opportunity for people who deliver well. Many of our contract placements lead to extensions, repeat assignments, or permanent conversion.

We are an equal opportunity employer.
