Job description

Job Summary:

The nuclear medicine PET/CT technologist, under the direction of the site manager and physicians, has the following responsibilities: preparation and administration of radiopharmaceuticals; performance of diagnostic procedures using radiation detection devices; operation of data analysis and display software; operation and quality control of all instrumentation; execution of radiation protection strategies; provide assistance to schedulers; perform various clerical functions as needed; and, as the patient's primary contact within the department, assure his or her safety, privacy, and comfort.

Pay Range: $44.65 - $75.92per hourbased on relevant experience, skills, and abilities. As a per diem position, this role also is eligible for a +15% "in lieu of benefits" hourly bonus.

Schedule and Location:This position is Per Diem and located at our Union Ave - TRA Medical Imaging Location.Per Diem employees are expected to work a minimum of 2 shifts or 16 hours per month.

Essential Job Functions:

A. Independently perform duties related to preparation and administration of radiopharmaceuticals, including:

  • check-in shipments of radioactive materials according to Dept. of Health mandated procedures

  • operation and quality control of a dose calibrator

  • measurement of radiopharmaceuticals for administration within recommended dose guidelines

  • performance of venipuncture in order to withdraw blood or to inject radiopharmaceuticals

  • the exercise of good judgment in the use of techniques and devices to minimize radiation exposure to self and others

  • maintenance of records of receipt, use, and disposal of radioactive materials.

  • perform radiation safety related tasks, such as exposure and contamination monitoring, as directed by the radiation safety officer.

B. Work to perform the diagnostic procedures which have been established by the nuclear medicine physician. This includes:

  • operation and quality control of the dose calibrator, Geiger counters, the PET scanner, and the image processing computers

  • communicating with the patients in an understandable and professional manner such that patients will comprehend their role in successfully performing the examination, and will be relieved of anxiety concerning their safety and security during the exam.

  • communicating effectively with patients, physicians, and other health professionals to achieve accurate transmission of procedure orders, clinical histories, and exam results.

C. Other jobs functions:

  • operation of the company’s radiology information system

  • operation of the company’s picture archiving and communication system

  • understand the concept of Protected Health Information (PHI) and follow HIPAA guidelines to insure confidentiality for our patients.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Work Experience

  • Graduation from a training program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT)

  • Completion of HIV/AIDS course as required for state radiologic technologist certification

  • Experience with the full range of nuclear diagnostic procedures, including data acquisition, processing, and display

  • Washington State Department of Health certification (CNMT)

  • Professional certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology (NMTCB or ARRT)

  • Current BLS certification required

Physical Requirements

Work is classified as moderate in physical requirements. Must be able to assist in supporting patients of varying weight. Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Also requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment as necessary.

Mental Requirements

Work requires high attention to detail and the ability to handle mentally stressful situations. The ability to maintain high level of sensitivity towards confidential information is also required.

Working/Environmental Conditions

Work environment consists of normal office or administrative working conditions. There may be exposure to communicable diseases. There will be limited exposure to ionizing radiation.
