Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform nuclear medicine procedures for inpatients, outpatients, and the ER, with coverage of non-hospital locations and adherence to accreditation standards.

Role includes seven-day emergency NM coverage on a rotational basis and strict adherence to radiation safety practices. The position requires continuing education and maintaining licensure in compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

  • Must be Radiologic Technologist with RT(R) or CNMT eligibility.
  • Board eligibility or certification in nuclear medicine required.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety and QA practices.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain clinical competency and follow NM procedures and protocols.
  • Provide NM procedures for inpatients, outpatients and ER; coordinate with departments.
  • Verify patient identity, orders, and ensure safe workflow.
  • Order and record radioactive material; perform daily quality control.
  • Deliver completed paperwork to radiologist and ensure PACS presence.
  • Maintain QA reports and ensure regulatory compliance for licensure.

Summary
  • Perform Nuclear Medicine procedures/therapies on inpatient, outpatient and emergency room patients, utilizing clinical skills, knowledge and competencies of the Nuclear Medicine technologist position. Cover non-hospital location(s), actively participate in any and all departmental accreditation requirements, and maintain certification and all regulatory items as deemed necessary. Provide, seven day per week emergency nuclear medicine coverage. (Rotational). Provide and maintain radiation safety standards.
Responsibilities
  • 1. Maintain clinical competency in the nuclear medicine technologist position requirements. Explain procedure before the start of exam Follow established protocols for all NM procedures Knowledge of protocols specific to patients' symptoms/findings Organize daily workload and assigns priorities for flow of patients. Follow all guidelines for infection control and patient safety Ability to differentiate between normal and abnormal scans. Maintain competency and high levels of professional standards 2. Provide patient care for all our customers by providing NM procedures as prescribed by a physician. Accurately verifies patient ID, utilizing two forms of ID. Verifies physician orders. Coordinate patient management with other department sections to ensure proper workflow and completeness of results. Administer radioactive materials – insert IV lines. Inform patient of delays as they occur Ensure exam is completed and patient is discharged in a safe and timely manner. 3. Compile and maintain patient records and schedules. Maintain patient documentation and records, to include patient logbooks, schedule books, statistical records and exam reports. Utilizes hospital computer applications to enter, view and process patient/exam data and charges. Maintain and update all records required by licensing/government agencies. Assay radioactive material and record doses used. 4. Order and record radioactive material. Order and receive doses for daily studies Perform daily quality control on all equipment Order/maintain department supplies in absence of Lead Tech. 5. Deliver completed paperwork to the radiologist for interpretation. Provide completed worksheet and adequate patient history with each procedure. Check archive system for prior procedure performed at Doylestown Hospital Ensure that the current procedure and scanned documents are present in the PAC’s system. Knowledge of Nighthawk and teleradiology units and their functions. 6. Perform all necessary Quality Assurance testing and maintain reports, imaging and documentation to maintain appropriate accreditation and/or departmental certification or licensure. a. Compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies Perform all tasks using the DEP guidelines Perform under the guidance of the RAM license Comply with appropriate USP guidelines for the handling of radiopharmaceuticals b. Maintain required certifications/licenses. Maintain professional growth through seminars, professional affiliations. Renew certification in a timely manner Complete continuing educational functions for compliance with certification requirements If applicable complete the ARRT CQR requirements in a timely manner
Credentials
  • Radiologic Technologist (Required)
  • Must be registered as an RT (N) / CNMT or Board eligible. Board eligible means: 1) completed a 2-year accredited nuclear medicine program and received notification from the Society that they are Board eligible, or 2) already have achieved an RT (R) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and subsequently have completed a one-year accredited nuclear medicine program.
