Position Summary
Nuclear medicine technologists are direct patient caregivers. They perform dose preparation and administration functions for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purposes; perform patient procedures, process, and enhance images, and prepare images for interpreting physicians to view.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Performs diagnostic nuclear medicine, therapeutic nuclear medicine, PET scanning, cardiac stress lab functions, and radiopharmacy functions as required. If dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), may also perform diagnostic CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order.
  • Exercises professional judgment in service performance, maintains a demeanor conducive to quality care.
  • Delivers appropriate care, recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful procedures.
  • Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and strategic imperatives.
  • Performs all nuclear medicine procedures, including dynamic, static, and functional studies.
  • Performs SPECT and SPECT CT imaging as required.
  • Performs PET imaging on a rotational basis as outlined in procedures or directed by physicians.
  • Handles computer acquisition, processing, and documentation as per procedures.
  • Performs quality control on all Nuclear Medicine instrumentation following guidelines.
  • Orders and administers radiopharmaceuticals, including positron emitters.
  • Maintains records as per Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control regulations.
  • Performs safety checks as per regulations.
  • Performs venipuncture and evaluates IV access for radiopharmaceutical and medication administration; may also administer contrast if dual certified.
  • Prepares radiopharmaceutical doses, calculates patient dosages, and maintains related records.
  • Assists in administering therapeutic radioactive materials with an authorized user.
  • Participates in the ALARA Radiation Safety Program.
  • Ensures safety of all customers.
  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance in accordance with policies and regulations.
  • Maintains compliance with all policies, guidelines, and education requirements.

Qualifications

Education/Training
Graduate of an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Licensure/Certification

  • Must maintain current certification as a CNMT by NMTCB or ARRT (N).
  • Must maintain current Florida State License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Must maintain current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.

Experience
None required; knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment, procedures, and radiation safety is essential.
