Job description

Nuclear Med Tech - Orlando Health - Health Central Hospital - Pool

Position Summary
Nuclear medicine technologists are direct patient caregivers. They perform dose preparation and administration functions for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purposes; perform patient procedures, process, and enhance images, and prepare images for interpreting physicians to view.

Responsibilities

  1. Essential Functions
  2. Performs diagnostic nuclear medicine, therapeutic nuclear medicine, PET scanning, cardiac stress lab functions, and radiopharmacy functions as required. If dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), may also perform diagnostic CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order.
  3. Exercises professional judgment and maintains a demeanor conducive to quality care.
  4. Delivers appropriate care, recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful procedure completion.
  5. Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and strategic imperatives.
  6. Performs all nuclear medicine procedures required by specific studies, including SPECT, SPECT CT, and PET imaging on a rotational basis.
  7. Performs computer acquisition, processing, and documentation as required.
  8. Performs quality control on all Nuclear Medicine instrumentation as outlined by procedures or manufacturer guidelines.
  9. Orders and administers radiopharmaceuticals, including positron emitters, as required.
  10. Maintains records as per Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.
  11. Performs safety checks as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.
  12. Performs venipuncture and evaluates IV access for radiopharmaceutical and medication administration. If dual certified, may also administer contrast.
  13. Prepares radiopharmaceutical doses and calculates patient dosages as required by law.
  14. Assists in administering therapeutic radioactive materials with an authorized user.
  15. Participates in the ALARA Radiation Safety Program.
  16. Ensures safety of all customers and maintains regular, punctual attendance.
  17. Maintains compliance with all policies, guidelines, and educational requirements.
Qualifications

Education/Training
Graduate of an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Licensure/Certification
Must meet ONE of the following in totality:

  • Current CNMT certification by NMTCB OR
  • Current ARRT(N) certification in Nuclear Medicine

And meet ALL of the following:

  • Current Florida State License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification

Experience
None required; knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment, procedures, and radiation safety preferred.
