Job summary

Averro is seeking a Materials Testing Manager for our nuclear energy clients located in Everett, WA. This role leads the materials engineering team and owns materials testing, characterization, and selection to support advanced nuclear reactor research.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 6-10+ years of materials engineering experience.
  • Extensive metallic materials testing and characterization experience.
  • Hands-on materials testing experience - mechanical testing, corrosion, tribology, microscopy, characterization.
  • Metal experience with stainless steels, high-temp alloys, and ceramics/coatings.
  • Experience leading or supervising engineers in a materials testing or characterization environment.
  • Familiarity with ASME NQA-1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, or similar nuclear quality frameworks.
  • Industry: nuclear, aerospace, or oil and gas - regulated environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of engineers executing materials testing and characterization programs.
  • Maintain in-laboratory presence to provide direct, immediate feedback and support to individual contributors.
  • Oversee third-party suppliers to ensure quality, compliance, and on-time delivery.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and resource planning.
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the development of direct reports through mentoring, training, and challenging assignments.
