Job summary

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory's Knolls site seeks an engineer to join the Science Autoclave Facility, applying materials, mechanical, and electrical engineering to autoclave testing of alloys and environmental degradation. You will design tests, collect high-quality data, and communicate results to stakeholders.

Ideal candidates bring experience with materials testing, LabVIEW, and data acquisition; collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and a commitment to safety are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors with 4+ years experience or advanced degrees with fewer years.
  • Advanced Reactor or Refueling engineering roles qualify.
  • Experience in materials testing environment.
  • Ability to design tests and hardware with a team.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn from laboratory staff.

Responsibilities

  • Scoping, proposing, and designing new tests and hardware with a team.
  • Daily interactions with lab operations to ensure data quality.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups to process data and evaluate specimens.
  • Prepare reports and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Engage in environmental/safety/compliance/procurement aspects of lab operations.
  • Work with experts, vendors, and manufacturing to design equipment and data acquisition changes.
  • Collaborate with contractors to develop and maintain test software/hardware.
