Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking Nuclear Maintenance Technicians to perform mechanical maintenance on nuclear power plant equipment, including assembly, disassembly, maintenance, and repair based on qualification status. The role includes preventive and corrective maintenance to sustain optimum equipment reliability.

Candidate must meet ANSI requirements, pass MASS tests, obtain nuclear access, and be able to lift 50 lbs while working across variable shifts and travel to other sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • ANSI minimum qualifications must be met for this position.
  • Must pass the MASS test and basic Maintenance Training.
  • Ability to gain and maintain nuclear access.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and use weight-rated equipment up to 325 lbs.

Summary

Nuclear Maintenance Technicians perform all types of mechanical activities by assembling, disassembling, maintaining, and repairing nuclear power plant equipment based on qualification status. This role also performs preventive and corrective maintenance for plant equipment in order to maintain optimum levels of equipment reliability.

Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED)
  • Three (3) years of directly related experience
Desired Qualifications
  • Five (5) years’ work experience dealing directly with mechanical, welding/pipe fitting, rotating equipment, HVAC, or valve maintenance related activities
  • Two-year technical school degree, or equivalent experience or training (e.g. military)
  • CNC machining skills and experience
  • HVAC experience, with Universal EPA certification
  • Demonstrated proficiency utilizing advanced computer skills
  • Demonstrated experience with, and support of, following safety processes administrative procedures and
  • technical procedures
  • Proven instrumentation/ electrical aptitude.

Working Conditions
  • Normal working hours are variable (could be 4 -10's, 5 - 8's or rotating 12-hour shifts, etc.)

  • Periodic callouts to support station needs
  • Weekend and Holiday work is required
  • Continuous training and successful testing is required
  • 25%-50% travel required to other Duke Energy sites
  • Working in extreme temperatures (hot/cold)
  • Climbing and working at elevated heights
  • Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties are required when minimum requirements are met
