Job summary

DTE Energy, a leading energy company, seeks a Nuclear Maintenance Journeyman-Electrical for the Fermi site. Responsibilities include electrical maintenance, inspections, testing, and collaborating with vendors to ensure safe plant operation.

The role requires a first-class journeyman in electrical trade, apprenticeship or equivalent military experience, and training duties. On-site work with emphasis on safety and procedures adherence.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed a company recognized apprenticeship in electrical trade.
  • Or a minimum of six years military schooling and maintenance experience with E-5
  • Or letters verifying eight years or more of hands-on electrical experience.
  • Journeyperson letters must be on company letterhead, dated, signed by HR, listing classification and dates.
  • Must have a first class journeyman in electrical trade and may work in other trades.
  • Must complete initial training within two years of hire/transfer date.
  • Must train other maintenance personnel to perform lower-skill mechanical work.
  • Must lift and handle tools and parts up to 100 pounds.
  • Must pass MASS test or be incumbent changing location or previously tested.
  • Must have valid driver's license and meet company driving standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical work as a first-class journeyman and at journeyman level as trained.
  • Maintain and improve power plant equipment and systems under supervision.
  • Read and work from procedures, blueprints, drawings, and manuals.
  • Inspect, test, and functionally surveil electrically operated components and equipment.
  • Prepare written inspection and repair reports.
  • Coordinate with internal and external (vendor) teams to follow procedures.
  • Ensure safe work practices to protect plant operation.
  • Perform burning, welding, silver soldering, and brazing.
  • Operate plant cranes and lifting equipment as needed.
  • Assist with training and directing other maintenance personnel.

Testing Required: EEI MASS Test

Key Accountabilities
  1. 1. Nuclear Maintenance Journeyman-Electrical will be certified per ANSI 45.2.6 as required and will perform the following:
    • a. Perform in the capacity of a first-class journeyman in the electrical trade. In addition, perform at the journeyman level as certified through task required training in inspections and testing of components and control systems.
    • b. Perform in a "helper" capacity in all trades.
  2. 2. Under the indirect and intermittent supervision of the maintenance supervisor, performs first, second, and third class electrical work to maintain and improve performance of power plant equipment and systems.
  3. 3. Reads, interprets, and works from detailed procedures, blueprints, drawings, diagrams and manuals.
  4. 4. Performs maintenance, inspections, testing, and functional surveillance's of electrically operated component and equipment such as (but not limited to) motor operated valves, batteries, chargers, breakers, air conditioners (HVAC), voltage inverters, control contractors and relays.
  5. 5. Prepares written reports on inspections and repairs made to equipment which apply to the trade.
  6. 6. Observes and assists organizations inside and outside (vendor) the company that will perform work or inspections on the plant grounds to ensure all Fermi procedures and practices are properly adhered to and followed.
  7. 7. Assist as necessary to ensure that work is performed in a safe manner and will not affect the safe operation of the plant.
  8. 8. Performs burning, welding, silver soldering, and brazing.
  9. 9. Operates turbine and reactor building bridges, plant mobile cranes, and other lifting or hoisting equipment.
  10. 10. Assists with the training of maintenance personnel in progression and directs the work of others as required.
Posting Qualifications
  • - Must have completed a company recognized apprenticeship in the trade of electrical.
  • OR
  • A minimum of six years military schooling and experience in maintenance and has attained the rank of E-5 within his/her skill range in the military, and be qualified to perform nuclear plant maintenance
  • OR
  • letters from employers which verify eight years or more of hands-on experience in the electrical classification.
  • Journeyperson letters must be on company letterhead, dated, signed by human resources, list classification, dates served in the classification, and what candidate did in that capacity.
  • - Must have High School Diploma or GED. Must conform with ANSI standard N18.1 1971, "Selection and Training of Nuclear Power Plant Personnel".
  • - Must have a first class journeyman skill in the electrician trade
  • - May work as third class and/or helper in other trades.
  • - Must be able to complete all required initial training within two years of hire/transfer date.
  • - Must be able to train other maintenance personnel to perform in the lower skill levels of mechanical work. Perform on the job training (OJT).
  • - Must be able to lift and handle tools, equipment parts, torque and impact wrenches, piping values, materials, etc. weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • - Must successfully pass all position required training and re-qualifications as deemed necessary to maintain and improve the skill level of the electrical trade.
  • - Must become proficient in various specific testing methodologies and techniques.
  • - Security screening and drug testing is required for access.
  • - Must take the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test and obtain 'Recommended' scores. (Exception: You will not be required to take the MASS test if you are an incumbent and/or changing location, or have previously taken and passed the test at the same or higher score.)
  • - Must have a valid driver's license and meet Company driving standards.
  • - Must meet regulatory requirements per Fermi procedures.
