NUCLEAR I&C TECHNICIAN – APPRENTICE SHIFT

Job Summary

Under direct supervision during shift work, performs skilled routine and multitask, both in the laboratory, shops and field, in both normal and radiological areas of the plants, related to installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and testing of equipment associated with electrical, mechanical and instrumentation & control systems. Satisfactorily completes the scheduled Instrument & Control Technician Apprentice-Shift Training Program.

Job Description

• Perform scheduled maintenance, calibrations, troubleshooting and repair and assist in the major maintenance and calibration of instrumentation and controls, reactor protection and associated equipment.
• Perform maintenance on microprocessor, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic instrumentation and control systems as directed.
• Verify and comply with Equipment Clearances and Radiological Work Permits related to Instrument and Control maintenance work assignments.
• Maintain proper operation of control systems by diagnosis and correction of operating perturbations through maintenance and calibration, as directed.
• Satisfactorily complete the scheduled initial, continuous, on-the-job and refresher training commitments identified in the I&C Technician Apprentice-Shift Training Program, accredited by the National Academy for Nuclear Training.
• Maintain calibration and maintenance work areas for portable equipment associated with radiation monitoring.
• Keep I&C shops, job work sites, test equipment issue areas and lab equipment in a safe, orderly, and neat condition.
• Assist other groups in support of safe operations and maintenance of the nuclear site.
• Accurately complete all documentation associated with and required by job tasks.
• Comply with all regulatory and site procedures and policies, including Site Emergency Plan and Technical Specifications.
• Assist in performing maintenance, calibrations, and troubleshooting on systems and equipment within the reactor containment and other radiological areas during all modes of plant operation.
• Perform “pre-critical checkout” of reactor controls and instrumentation as directed.
• Set up test equipment and assist engineers in conducting tests of station equipment.
• Assist in maintenance and calibration of radiation monitoring systems and equipment.
• Perform rigging for handling I&C equipment and materials as directed.
• Assist computer personnel with board component repair, hardware calibration, soldering, wire wrapping, and cable lug terminations, as directed.
• Perform maintenance on reactor control rod drive and control equipment as directed.
• Assist in modifying control panels for new or different installation of instruments and controls.
• Perform multitask and other related work as assigned or directed.
