Job summary

Protingent Staffing is seeking a Fuel Handling Mechanical Design Engineer for a contract assignment in Bellevue, WA or 100% remote. The role focuses on designing nuclear fuel handling equipment, developing calculations and drawings, and coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams to meet regulatory and project requirements.

The ideal candidate has 6–15 years of experience in mechanical design for complex equipment, familiarity with ASME BPVC, and strong technical writing and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university, or equivalent experience.
• 6-15 years direct experience with proven mechanical equipment design skills.
• Experience in ASME BPVC, Section III, Division 1 and/or Section VIII.
• Experience with remote tooling design and/or hot cell design/operations.
• Previous experience with nuclear reactors or fuel handling processes is required.

Responsibilities

• Design of nuclear fuel handling equipment from requirements through final design and commissioning.
• Provide design support for fuel handling equipment and components.
• Produce drawings, 3D models, and system interface drawings.
• Write technical reports and documents detailing design work.
• Lead and guide design teams and coordinate interdepartmental activities.
• Ensure compliance with design codes (ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA).
