Job summary

Vistra Nuclear Operations Company in Texas seeks a Nuclear Equipment Operator to operate station equipment and systems in line with Administrative, Procedural, and Regulatory requirements.

You will inspect equipment, monitor performance, respond to off-normal conditions, participate in site Fire Brigade activities, complete required training, and work 12-hour rotating shifts as part of a safety‑driven team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Good written and verbal skills.
• Strong teaming skills.
• Associate’s Degree in Math, Science, or Engineering preferred.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Science, or Engineering preferred.
• Previous Nuclear experience (Navy or Commercial) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect assigned equipment, document inspections, and adjust equipment as needed.
• Monitor trends in equipment performance and inform control room of anomalies.
• Identify and initiate actions for material condition issues.
• Take initial actions for off-normal conditions and follow up as directed.
• Identify/report abnormal conditions or hazards and support continuous service.
• As a member of the site Fire Brigade, perform firefighting, rescue and spill response.
• Perform surveillances and special test activities.
• Participate in ongoing training to maintain skills and prepare for NRC license examination.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspect assigned equipment, complete documentation associated with these inspections, and adjust equipment as necessary for proper equipment and system operation.
• Monitor trends in equipment performance and inform control room of any unexpected indications.
• Identify and initiate actions for material condition issues.
• Perform the initial actions required in response to an off-normal condition, and perform follow up actions as directed
• Identify and correct any abnormal conditions, hazards to personnel or equipment, or challenges to continuous service, if possible, and report any findings to the Control Room.
• As a member of the site Fire Brigade, perform firefighting, rescue and chemical spill response activities.
• Perform surveillances and special test activities
• Satisfactorily participate in a continuing training program structured to maintain and enhance job proficiency skills and prepare for NRC license examination.

Knowledge/Experience

Minimum background and knowledge requirements:

• High School Diploma, or GED equivalent required.
• Good written and verbal skills
• Strong teaming skills

Preferred background and knowledge requirements:

• Associate’s Degree in Math, Science, or Engineering
• Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Science, or Engineering
• Previous Nuclear experience (Navy or Commercial)

Physical/Mental Demands and Working Conditions:

• Must be able to climb stairs, work above and below ground, and lift loads up to fifty pounds
• Must be able to wear a respirator
• Must be able to be a Radiation Worker

Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts

Applicant will be required to successfully complete the following to be considered for the position:

• Requisites to obtain unescorted access to the power plant, which include: psychological examination, drug screen and security background check.
