Job summary

Forge Atomics in Los Angeles County seeks Nuclear Engineering Intern/Co-op to contribute to the design and safety analysis of Ember reactor. You will work on core design, fuel cycle analysis, reactivity control, and radiation dose assessment within the simulation toolchain, under mentorship.

The role covers end-to-end nuclear analyses, development of tooling, and close collaboration with engineers across disciplines for a fast-moving design environment.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in an engineering, physics or math discipline by the start of employment
• 3+ months of applied engineering experience (internships and project team experience strongly preferred)
• U.S. export control regulations governing access to nuclear technology (10 CFR Part 810); U.S. citizenship not required for Forge's hosting

Responsibilities

• Own a well-scoped nuclear analysis end-to-end - criticality, depletion, reactivity coefficients, shielding - with mentorship
• Run and extend reactor physics simulations supporting core design, fuel cycle, and reactivity control studies
• Support radiation shielding and release analysis against regulatory limits
• Build and improve the analysis tools and automation for fast design iterations
• Collaborate with fluids, structures, components, and manufacturing engineers to keep the design system-optimized
