Job summary

Duke Energy's Nuclear Fuels Engineering (NFE) group in Charlotte, NC, is seeking Nuclear Engineer I or II to contribute to safety analysis, transient simulations, and licensing support. This entry-level role provides supervision with growth toward independent analyses and collaboration with regulators and industry.

Responsibilities include performing transient simulations with RETRAN-3D and VIPRE-01, preparing technical reports, developing analysis codes, and supporting LARs and 50.59

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering from ABET accredited program.
  • Master's degree in Engineering acceptable in lieu of B.S.
  • 0–2 years for Engineer I; 2–4 years plus nuclear experience for Engineer II.
  • Experience with safety analysis codes (RETRAN, VIPRE) and PWR safety analyses.
  • Familiarity with PWR systems and NRC licensing processes (50.59).

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex transient thermal-hydraulic simulations for all Duke PWRs using RETRAN-3D and VIPRE-01.
  • Prepare thorough technical reports, correspondence, and documentation.
  • Develop, qualify, and maintain computer codes for safety analysis.
  • Collaborate with Duke, industry, vendors, and regulators.
  • Participate in technical training activities.
  • Support Licensing Amendment Requests (LAR) and 50.59 evaluations.
  • Ensure analyses meet NRC requirements and project timetables.
