  • B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related discipline (Physical Sciences) with equivalent experience.
  • Desired: Master of Science degree in engineering
  • Engineer I: 0+ years in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent.
  • Engineer II: 2+ years in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent.
  • Engineer III: 4+ years in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent.
  • Senior Engineer: 6+ years in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent.
  • Note: Relevant M.S. Degree or P.E. in related field may count as 1 year of experience.
  • Desired: Experience in Reactor Engineering, Safety Analysis, or Fuel Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise to core reload projects including design and licensing of the core, fabrication, fuel reliability and transportation.
  • Collaborate on fuel and core designs, including strategic fuel design evaluations to lead in advanced technologies for improved fuel performance, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Support reload and startup activities by ensuring engineering work is performed with quality and predictability; capture lessons learned and apply industry best practices.
  • Maintain detailed core models to support site reactor engineering and other plant functions.
  • Provide reactor physics and fuel criticality expertise to support analytical and design bases for licenses.
  • Review, evaluate, and document Entergy’s acceptance to fuel vendor deviations to the approved design that can impact fuel design fit, form, and function.
  • Review, evaluate, and document Entergy’s acceptance to fuel vendor fabrication process changes that can impact fuel design fit, form, and function.
  • Provide technical oversight of contracted analyses
  • Ensure programs such as Special Nuclear Material and Fuel Reliability are implemented to standards.
  • Support Reactor Engineering as SME in Fuel Reliability and SNM programs, focusing on reactivity management, core monitoring/burnup, core components, operations support, spent fuel pool inventory management, fuel receipt and inspection, refueling, fuel movement, and dry cask fuel selection.

Job Summary/Purpose

Core Design Engineers are responsible for supporting Entergy’s nuclear fleet in our mission to safely and efficiently provide clean, reliable and sustainable nuclear energy.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise to core reload projects including activities associated with the design and licensing of the core, including fabrication, fuel reliability and transportation.
  • Collaborate on fuel and core designs, including strategic fuel design evaluations, to lead the industry in advanced technologies for improved fuel performance, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Support reload and startup activities by ensuring engineering work is performed with quality and predictability; fleet lessons learned are captured and discussed as part of continuous learning culture; and industry best practices are implemented.
  • Maintain detailed core models to support site reactor engineering and other plant functions in safely and reliably operating our nuclear fleet.
  • Provide reactor physics and fuel criticality expertise to support the analytical and design bases on which each plant was licensed.
  • Review, evaluate, and document Entergy’s acceptance to fuel vendor (or sub-supplier) fuel deviations to the approved design that can impact fuel design fit, form, and function.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience with nuclear design software packages (CASMO/SIMULATE, SCALE, MCNP, etc.)
  • Experience with programming languages (Python, FORTRAN, Visual Basic, etc.) and shell scripting in UNIX/LINUX environments
