Job summary

Halo Industries, Inc. in Santa Clara, California is seeking a motivated NPI engineering intern to assist senior engineers in designing, building, testing, and documenting mechanical systems for new product introductions.

You will help transition designs to pilot manufacturing and ensure manufacturability and quality. Responsibilities include CAD modeling, BOMs, ECOs, prototype assembly, root-cause analysis, and cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Hands-on mechanical skills and technical aptitude.
  • Experience with PLM/ERP tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create, modify, and update 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Assist with BOMs, ECOs, technical reports, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Support prototype builds and tooling orders for assembly during proto-type stages.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for process and product issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth NPI and pilot manufacturing processes.

The Opportunity

The NPI engineering intern supports senior level engineers with the design, building, testing and documentation of mechanical systems, components, or tooling. The NPI team is responsible for transitioning new product designs from the development phase to pilot manufacturing, ensuring manufacturability, quality, manufacturing process testing, and successful launch of these complex machines. This role is at the intersection of design and manufacturing and therefore involves collaboration with design, manufacturing, supply chain and quality teams to proactively identify potential issues, develop solutions, and implement processes for a smooth New Product Introduction (NPI) and timely delivery of complex machines.

Responsibilities
CAD Modelling & Drafting
  • Create, modify, and update 3D models and 2D engineering drawings using tools such as SolidWorks
Documentation
  • Assist with creating Bill of Materials (BOMs), engineering change orders (ECOs), technical reports, and manufacturing procedures
Prototype Builds & Pilot Manufacturing
  • Support the engineering team with prototype builds
  • Design and order tooling/fixtures for assembly process during proto-type stage
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for process and product failures
  • Support review and implementation of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) into Pilot Manufacturing
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve cost, efficiency, and quality
Problem Solving & Collaboration
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, electrical, quality, supply chain
  • Support machine build and test work flows, plus:
  • Warehouse operations, e.g., kitting of materials for work orders,
  • Product record maintenance (SolidWorks, Arena PLM, procedures), Quality Control
  • Use structured analysis methods to find root causes and verify solutions
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Technical aptitude, and hands‑on mechanical skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • High adaptability, resilience, and a proactive “can-do” attitude combined with problem solving skills
  • Strong organizational values of Integrity, Transparency, Teamwork, Fairness, Respect, Inclusivity, Ethical Conduct, Continuous Improvement, and Safety
  • Prior experience with NPI / manufacturing engineering
  • Enthusiastic about using complex IT tools (PLM, QMS,and ERP) to support digital workflows
