Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking an NPI engineer to drive new products from prototype to release. You will work with mechanics, optics, firmware, software, marketing and sales to define requirements, procure parts, and support manufacturability.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, design documentation, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure successful product introductions and robust packaging. US-ITAR aware, entry to mid-level experience welcomed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Optical Systems Engineering or related technical major.
• Entry level to 4 years industrial experience in opto/electro mechanical design.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• US person required to work with ITAR products.

Responsibilities

• Review project inputs from design engineers and gather product requirements and specs.
• Procure components for pilot run of new products with planning group.
• Assist technicians in pilot run builds and manufacturability proofs.
• Install software/firmware and perform modular, front end and GUI testing.
• Review marketing analysis for pricing and gross margins of new products.
• Execute NPI inventory transactions and create engravings/markings.
• Collaborate with design engineers on packaging for new products.
• Provide technical support to customers and sales teams.
• Set up items and BOMs in MRP, review drawings and docs for release.
• Participate in product reviews and support derivative product introductions.
• Document all project inputs/outputs in ECRO process.
