Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking a Mechanical/Optical Systems Engineer for the NPI team in the US. You will interface with mechanics, optics, firmware, software, marketing, sales, and production to transition prototypes to final release.

Responsibilities include defining product requirements, supporting pilot runs, testing software/firmware, and assisting with packaging and documentation to improve manufacturability. Requires a bachelor’s in a technical field and ITAR awareness.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Optical Systems Engineering or related major.
Entry level to 4 years industrial experience in opto/electro mechanical design.
US person to work with ITAR products.

Responsibilities

Review project inputs from design engineers and define product requirements for new products or enhancements.
Procure components for pilot run of new products with purchasing/planning.
Assist technicians in pilot run builds or manufacturability assessments.
Install software/firmware onto new systems and perform modular, front-end and GUI testing.
Provide technical support to customers and sales teams for new products.
Create packaging solutions for new products.
Document project inputs/outputs in ECRO process.
