Job summary

Safran Electrical & Power is seeking an NPI Commodity Manager in Twinsburg, OH to drive purchasing strategy for development and OE production. You will collaborate with Engineering and Quality to design to cost and secure suppliers.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree (or 5+ years in purchasing) and strong supplier management, negotiations, and cross-functional leadership across domestic and international supply bases. Occasional travel is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Purchasing focal point between suppliers and internal stakeholders (Quality, Engineering, SPQM, Program manager).
  • Lead Design To Cost (DTC) discussions involving Suppliers and Engineering team.
  • Develop and send RFQ packages per Purchasing Strategy.
  • Lead the Supplier Choice Committee (SCC).
  • Participate in Manufacturability and Design Reviews with suppliers.
  • Ensure program recurrent cost aligns with Business Plan.
  • Define and implement actions to reach RC targets.
  • Identify savings opportunities during development phase for OE production.
  • Define strategy to secure the program (agreements, double sourcing).
  • Perform purchasing risk analysis (single source, geopolitical risks, obsolescence).
  • Define risk mitigation plan and monitor actions.
  • Define contract road map to reach 80% coverage.
  • Collaborate with Quality to lead APQP processes.
  • Represent Purchasing at Program gates reviews.
  • Ensure supplier management across all program phases (DV, Qualification, OE Production).
  • Develop a program dashboard for monthly reporting.

Job Description

This role is responsible for accurate supply chain input and support of Bid/Proposal activity. NPI CM collaborates with Commodity Managers to build sustainable Purchasing strategies for development phase and OE Production phase of the program. A key aspect of this role is close collaboration with crossfunctional teams as Engineering team to ensure Design to Cost (DTC), seamless integration, problem solving and innovation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Act as a Purchasing focal point between suppliers and internal stakeholders (Quality, Engineering, SPQM, Program manager) for the program.
  • Lead Design To Cost (DTC) discussions involving Suppliers and Engineering team
  • Develop and send RFQ packages taking into consideration the Purchasing Strategy of the Commodity Managers.
  • Prepare and lead the Supplier Choice Committee (SCC)
  • Be part of the Manufacturability and Design Reviews with the selected suppliers
  • Ensure the program Recurrent Cost (RC) is aligned with the Business Plan (BP)
  • Define and implement the necessary action plan to reach the RC targets.
  • Be able to define saving opportunities at the development phase for the OE production
  • Define the strategy to secure the program (Agreement, implementation of double source...)
  • Perform a purchasing risk analysis (single source, geopolitical risks, obsolescence etc...)
  • Define a risk mitigation plan and monitors the actions
  • Define the contract road map (agreement, leader) to reach 80% coverage
  • Collaborate with Quality to lead APQP processes
  • Represent Purchasing Department at Program gates reviews.
  • Ensure effective supplier management and coordinates Procurement activities throughout all phases of the program (i.e. Design Validation, Qualification, OE Production).
  • Develop a Program dashboard and update it on a monthly basis to ensure the good level of reporting to the internal stakeholders
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with government, customer, industry and import/export regulations.
  • Adhere to safe work practices and contributes to the evolution of the health, safety, and environmental program and culture;
  • Travel requirements: Frequent travel (general guideline: once a month) within U.S/Outside U.S.
  • Other duties may be assigned and the candidate may manage several programs at the same time

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Purchasing or Project Management or related field of study and a minimum of 3 years' experience in Purchasing or similar industry.
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years' experience in Purchasing or similar industry.
Knowledge/Skills
  • Experience in project and supplier management, engineering management in an automotive /aerospace electronics and/or machining environment.
  • Familiarity with the requirements of dealing with both domestic and international supply base.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relationship between supply service performance, pricing and committed deliveries.
  • Negotiations skills.
  • Able to generate general business correspondence.
  • Proficient working knowledge of technology processing within Machining and Electronic manufacturing.
  • Ability to develop new suppliers as required.
  • Results oriented.
  • Able to lead by examples.
  • Willingness to learn, ability to research, analyze and develop ideas and methods.
  • Effective communicator at all levels both internally and externally.
