Job summary

Rising Ground in New York City is seeking an Assistant Director of Accounting to supervise contract accountants, manage program budgets, and oversee monthly billings and financial reporting for multiple programs. The role reports to the CFO and anchors the organization’s finance operations.

You will lead a team of 5–6 accounting staff, ensure adherence to Uniform Guidance and internal controls, and collaborate with program leadership to implement new processes for expanding programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in accounting or related field.
• 7–10 years not-for-profit accounting with contract billing.
• 2–3 years supervisory experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with Passport, ACS Schedules, and Uniform Guidance.
• Experience with SSOP; Sage Intacct helpful but not required.
• Strong analytical and interpersonal skills; verbal and written skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with all levels; CPA desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Review and assist in preparation of annual budgets for programs in conjunction with program management.
• Review and prepare new budget proposals as necessary.
• Review and prepare monthly budget to actual analysis.
• Review and preparation of the monthly billing reports.
• Review, prepare and submit budget modification requests as needed; monitor variances and advise program directors.
• Review and prepare program financial statements as required by funding source or program management.
• Responsibility for funding source audits.
• Supervise 5–6 Accountant Supervisors and Contract Accountants.
• Review and prepare supporting schedules and analyses for annual audit reviews.
• Review financial information for various programs and report to finance staff and program management.
• Review and preparation of supporting schedules for reports from funding sources.
