Job summary

Rising Ground, Inc. in New York, NY seek s a senior finance professional to supervise contract accountants and manage program budgets. This exempt, full-time role reports to Finance and oversees multiple programs’ budgets, monthly billings, and audits.

You will lead a small team (5–6) of accountants, coordinate with program leaders, and ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance and ACS schedules. Strong Excel and nonprofit accounting experience required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in accounting or related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience in a not-for-profit setting, preferably with contract billing.
  • 2–3 years of supervisory experience.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Passport.
  • Experience with ACS Schedules.
  • Experience with SSOP and Uniform Guidance audit helpful.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct helpful but not essential.
  • Strong analytical interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and external agencies.
  • CPA desirable but not a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Review and supervise annual budgets for programs in conjunction with program management.
  • Review and prepare new budget proposals as necessary.
  • Review and prepare monthly budget-to-actual analysis.
  • Review and prepare monthly billing reports and related schedules.
  • Monitor variances and advise program directors on spending relative to budget.
  • Prepare program financial statements for funding sources or management.
  • Oversee funding source audits and related schedules.
  • Assist leadership in developing procedures to support new programs.
  • Supervise 5–6 Accountant Supervisors and Contract Accountants.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and analyses for annual audits.
  • Provide regular financial reporting to finance staff and program management.
  • Prepare ACS and other required schedules for reports.

Overview

Supervise and support contract accountants who are responsible for preparation of both the organization’s and funding sources budgets, monthly billings and all aspects of the accounting for various programs. As well as assume a small portfolio of programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and assist in preparation of annual budgets for programs in conjunction with program management
  • Review and prepare new budget proposals as necessary
  • Review and prepare monthly budget to actual analysis
  • Review and preparation of the monthly billing reports
  • Review, prepare and submit budget modification requests as needed monitoring variances of expenditure over budget and advising program directors to monitor spending to the budget
  • Review and prepare program financial statements as required by either funding source or program management
  • Responsibility for funding source audits
  • Work with program leadership to develop procedures to support new programs
  • Supervise 5 – 6 Accountant Supervisors and Contract Accountants
  • Review and prepare supporting schedules and analyses for annual audit reviews for various programs and agencies in general
  • Review financial information for various programs and report on a regular basis to finance staff and program management
  • Review and preparation of supporting schedules and other miscellaneous reports as requested by the various funding sources
  • Approve and record general ledger entries (salaries, OTPS, revenue, etc.).
  • Review and preparation of the year-end reports for the annual audit, i.e. salary reconciliation to general ledger, vacation, and sick days accruals, etc.
  • Preparation of ACS Schedules
  • Review and assist in preparation of salary details and other schedules for SSOP Report
  • Assist in preparation of supporting schedules for the Uniform Guidance report
  • Review and reconciliation of various grants including regular billings and reconciliation of general ledger
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
