Job summary

Trust for Public Land seeks a Director of Philanthropy to lead major gifts in the Northwest and manage a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals to advance the organization’s priorities.

The role combines relationship development, program oversight, and team leadership, with a focus on multi-year revenue goals and donor engagement across private foundations, corporations, and individuals.

Qualifications

• Minimum 11 years of professional fundraising experience, with five+ years in major gifts.
• Ability to organize and motivate others, including volunteers.
• Experience across fundraising practices (institutional giving, major gifts, planned giving, etc.).
• Experience planning, leading campaigns, and coordinating with peers to achieve results.
• Ability to train non-philanthropy staff in fundraising discipline.
• Strong written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with staff and donors.
• Experience using donor management software and complex databases.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and collaboration tools.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Relationship Manager: manage a portfolio of ~100 donors and prospects focusing on major gifts ($100K+), including visits, cultivation, solicitations, and recognition.
• Oversee all fundraising activities in the Northwest program and coordinate annual and multi-year plans to hit revenue goals.
• Lead and mentor Philanthropy team members and support professional development.
• Collaborate with regional and national teams to execute organization-wide philanthropy strategy.
