Job summary

KERA in Dallas, TX, seeks an Executive Editor to lead KERA News across digital, radio, print and TV, and to oversee the Denton Record-Chronicle editorial team and our two daily radio programs. The role supervises newsroom leadership and partners with multiple regional and content partners.

The ideal candidate brings seasoned journalism leadership, audience-focused thinking, and a track record of growing and mentoring editors while guiding coverage that meets strategic goals.

• Significant experience in an editorial leadership capacity.
• Strong leadership philosophy and ability to lead diverse teams.
• Experience in project management and collaborative leadership across organizations.
• Digitally savvy with experience engaging news audiences across platforms.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced live environment.
• Passion for public radio journalism and serving North Texas audiences.
• Proven experience in developing leaders and newsroom talent.

Responsibilities

• Set overall editorial strategy for KERA News, the Denton Record-Chronicle and daily talk shows.
• Recruit, develop and retain a strong team of journalists; coach editors.
• Manage relationships with local, state, and national editorial partners.
• Use audience data to shape coverage and products, from hard news to arts.
• Collaborate with departments across KERA to meet strategic goals.
• Participate in meetings and fundraising campaigns.
• Plan and supervise budgeting for KERA News projects.
• Join the leadership team to connect newsroom priorities with organizational strategy.
• Attend and represent KERA at events and in the community.
• Foster an inclusive culture and amplify diverse voices in coverage.
