Job summary

KERA, the public media company for North Texas, seeks a Law and Justice Reporter to cover the intersection of civil and criminal law with public policy and real-world impact on Texans. Based in Dallas/Fort Worth, this role emphasizes human storytelling over traditional court reporting and includes radio and digital production.

The ideal candidate digs into court records, develops sources, and breaks stories with ethics and public service at the core.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to quickly write, voice and produce radio and digital stories.
• Passion for accountability journalism and daily news.
• Demonstrated commitment to community representation in reporting and sourcing.
• Solid knowledge of Associated Press style, ability to exercise sound news judgment and follow KERA/NPR ethics and editorial standards.
• Public media journalism mindset serving a North Texas audience.

Responsibilities

• Write, voice and produce engaging stories for radio and digital platforms from interviews, research, data and analysis.
• Find creative ways to report on news with enterprise reporting and high impact.
• Develop distinctive digital and audio stories with North Texas focus and statewide/national context.
• Collaborate with team to contribute story ideas and experiment with storytelling techniques.
• Create and participate in online and in-person events.
• Participate in training opportunities across KERA and The Texas Newsroom.
