Description

The YMCA of Orange County has an opening for a Transitional Kinder Teacher in the La Habra area. The Transitional Kinder Teacher is responsible for maintaining a positive controlled environment while meeting the needs of all children. Assist in planning and carrying out a curriculum based upon the needs and interests of preschool aged children. This includes general supervision to ensure safety, assisting with program areas and general maintenance.

Work hours include Monday - Friday 12:30PM-5:45PM

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Provide supervision and set and maintain limits for children using positive reinforcement.
  • Treat children, parents, and staff with dignity and respect.
  • Maintain a clean environment; be responsible for maintenance of equipment & supplies.
  • Maintain good public relations with parents and communicate with the Childcare Director.
  • Ensure the health and safety of all children, including following reporting and release procedures of children.
  • Demonstrate and teach the character development values of respect, responsibility, caring, fairness, trustworthiness and citizenship.
  • Follow & enforce safety regulations & other YMCA, school, and ASESprocedures.
  • Assist with YMCA Member Involvement program and annual YMCA Campaign.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Carries out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical, and professional manner.
Qualifications

Hiring Criteria
The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

Education & Certifications:

  • 48 college units or passing proficiency exam prior to hire for (non-licensed/ASES programs).
  • Pediatric (EMSA) First Aid and Pediatric (EMSA) CPR certifications required within 90 days of hire. Trained through the YMCA.

Experience & Background

  • Must be 18 years of age with two years of experience working with children in a group environment required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.
