Job summary

A developmental support organization in California is seeking an Adaptive Skills Training Specialist to oversee and train individuals with developmental disabilities in daily living skills and safety awareness. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, excellent communication and organizational skills, and a minimum of one year of relevant experience. This full-time position demands in-field training, service monitoring, and the ability to adapt to various client needs and environments, with physical demands including lifting and driving between sites.

Summary of duties and responsibilities: The Adaptive Skills Training Specialist is responsible for the daily direct supervision of children and/or adults with developmental disabilities (aka clients). Duties include and are not limited to the following; • Safety skills • Toileting skills **Duties and Responsibilities under** **Adaptive Skills Training Service Code 605 Program:****Employment Preparation** (provide supervision to the individual while acquiring skills necessary for successful employment. This includes supporting the individual with personal appearance/hygiene, screening/application/interview process, building a network, preparing a resume, time management, communication, working under direct supervision and safety awareness)**Communication Skills** (provide supervision to the individual while accessing facilitated communication devices which may include Braille, Sign Language, finger spelling, augmentative devices, development of adaptations as per choice, mannerism, etc. Provide training and supervision on how to use a telephone, cell phone, internet, etc.)**Education Training** (provide supervision and training on how to enroll in classes, apply for financial aid, school/class selection, maintain attendance, complete assignments, encourage, etc. Training may include parent skills, family life education and sexual education)**Self Help Skills** (provide supervision and train individuals in basic hygiene tasks and at times tend to individual with bathing and assist the individuals with proper dressing for weather and environment)**Personal and Public Safety Skills** (provide supervision and training in recognizing stranger danger safety skills, recognition of safe vs. unsafe environments, street safety skills) **Emergency Preparedness** (provide supervision and training on how to remain safe in the event of an emergency such as fire, earthquake, and any other emergency. Promote awareness of the use and purpose of 911 and emergency services)**Health and Nutrition Skills** (provide supervision and training to individual with following recommendation diet and nutrition needs. At times, personal attendant will help individual with feeding by providing hand over hand supervision.)**Home Maintenance** (provide supervision and training to individual on maintaining a safe and clean-living environment. Also, able to provide support on completing necessary laundry tasks.)**Self-Advocacy Skills** (provide supervision and support to the individual with becoming aware of their rights, identifying when their rights are being violated, use of legal rights, self-reliance, self-esteem, empowerment, etc.)**Living Options** (provide supervision and training to individual on making choices on living location, living alone or having roommates, cost of living, etc.)**Benefit Planning** (provide supervision and training of individual while accessing Medi-Cal benefits, applying for SSI, Medi-Cal, assist and train the individual how to make appointments, cancel appointments, attend appointments, Immigration/citizen process, etc.)**Shopping skills** (provide supervision and support with shopping for groceries in the community. Personal attendant will support individual in making healthy food choices and assist with budgeting and price comparison)* Provide services under the individual program plan (IPP), individual service plan (ISP) and individual educational plan (IEP).* Monitors services and individuals progress to establish goals and objectives per individuals plans.* Provide supervision and training as outlined in the individual’s IPP, ISP, and or IEP.* Attends team meetings or other trainings as part of continuation of education or any agency-wide training and in-service programs* Participates or provides information in individuals quarterly/semi-annual and annual meetings* Research and plan activities for individual(s) according to their goals/objectives in the ISP, IEP and IPP.* Must perform other related duties and assignments as required.* Must complete 12 hours of Continue Educational Units (CEU) annually and monthly In-Service trainings* Minimum one (1) year experience supporting individual with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities* Excellent organizational skills, planning, and time management skills* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; verbal and written* Ability to read, analyze and interpret client AST and behavior plans.* Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management software.* Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred**Bachelor’s Degree** in one of the following areas: education, psychology, counseling, nursing, social work, applied behavior analysis, behavioral medicine, speech and language, rehabilitation, marriage and family therapy, or a comparable degree in a human services field.* Client private home locations will vary per demographic need* Corporate/and or business offices and conference/training rooms* Outdoor weather conditions will vary while working with client in community setting(s)* Must be able to lift, push or carry up to 50 pounds* Ability to bend, kneel, run, stoop, and other physical movements* Must have keen vision to respond to safety situations and review reports* Possible long-term sitting, while driving to various work sites
