Job summary

Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Staff Accountant for a mission-driven nonprofit organization. This on-site role offers a meaningful place on the Finance & Administration team, with broad responsibilities and opportunities to support audits and budgeting.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborates with HR and the Controller, and brings hands-on experience in reconciliations, payroll, and financial reporting in a nonprofit setting.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in accounting principles and GAAP.
• Hands-on experience with reconciliations, payroll, financial reporting, and month-end close.
• Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple priorities in a nonprofit environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Blackbaud Financial Edge and ADP Workforce Now is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support daily and monthly accounting operations, including account reconciliations, journal entries, reimbursements, and maintaining general ledger accuracy.
• Process bi-weekly payroll and related reporting, including timesheet verification, benefit and union deductions, retirement transmissions, and final checks.
• Partner with HR to ensure accurate employee setup and changes, payroll deductions, accruals, reporting, and resolution of payroll discrepancies.
• Prepare bank reconciliations, fixed asset and depreciation schedules, prepaid expense schedules, and monthly financial reports.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close, external audits, budget preparation, and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and workflows.
• Support departmental and organizational special projects and other accounting duties as needed.
